hello some weird things started to happen my pc after trying to disable windows defender. first of all none of the settings related group policies & regedit & tamper protection worked for me to disable win defender. whatever i did windows defender is always turned back on. anyway i somehow disabled defender after trying lots of things including windows aero program (didnt work and caused another problem too) and now i have another problems.

- first address bar on regedit doesnt work for me. when i copy some regedit url on address and hit the enter nothing happens. it doesnt open that folder path i have to navigate manually. this was not like before.

- second thing is the windows related settings. like win explorer scrollbar visibility, when i enable/disable that setting nothing happens. scrollbar is still hidden. it never becomes visible like we used to have. that setting was also working before.

- another one is search suggestions you get when opening start menu. i used to disabled it now i have that again.

- last one is another start menu related problem; bing search suggestions. you know when you start typing something for to open app on windows start menu, bing shows websearch results. i had disabled this before now it doesnt work. i started to get bing search results again.

so in the end i must have done smth to cause these problems? virus maybe? what do you think?

i am thinking to reset windows but if there is a way fix these problems before i can take it.

You wanted to disable Defender, but have concern about having a virus "maybe"?

Perhaps a bit more background about why you would wish to disable something so integral to the OS as well as going messing around in the registry which by the measure of this post you don't know what you are doing there?

My recommendation would be to try and back up what you wish to save, like docs, pics, personal items and perform a clean install with a USB installer directly from MS and then leave it alone and use as designed.

first of all i am very experienced user (20 years) and no i didnt do anything related crack, keygen etc. after trying to disable windows defender.

as for why did i disable it, because i always do. i dont like it works on the background. i have always disabled defender before with win 10 and older versions and never got any viruses for like ten years.

i also didnt suspect for viruses it was just a guess because nothing came to my mind at this point also i dont think viruses would care for scrollbar feature...

sometimes when you try to disable windows defender you would screw up with ownership problems so only thing i could suspect is this. maybe there is some ownership setting that doesnt let the settings would take effect on some features...

did you document what you did to disable defender?
if you mess with security, a reset might not fixed it

i really dont remember but they were all about changing settings on group policies and registry entries about disabling windows security entirely. but i also used winaeo program and that broke something. for example after disabling win defender with that program my chrome browser stopped working. really none of the webpages were opening after using that tweak program then i just reverted the settings i made with it.

btw i just realized that scrollbar option doesnt work on windows explorer too. it only works on windows setting menus not file explorer. microsoft is really run by idiots if you ask me.

just try that if you dont believe me. enable "always show scrollbars" option from settings (accessability > visual settings) then go and open some folder with lots of files that activate vertical scrollbar on windows explorer. you will still see that vertical scrollbar is hidden on the right...
