I keep having issues with Windows Explorer randomly crashing on me. I can't determine a single cause, but I can reliably cause it when trying to change my desktop picture.

Here's the crash details I found.

The only results I can find when researching are old threads from last year and the W10 Tech Preview, where the issue was apparently fixed with an update. As I'm running the release version and (according to Windows Update as of about three minutes ago) there currently are no updates to be had, I'm at something of a loss.

Solution
why not back up the saves too? I always have all my files on a different drive to win 10, then fresh install might be apain but I don't lose anything. Now I have all the things I really can't lose on either google drive or one drive, I feel a lot safer again. For 10 years I dreaded losing all my music, now its on 2 cloud servers I don't care so much.

So windows doesn't see a problem, have you tried updating motherboard drivers as they about only other software that would be messing up exploder. try running driver booster and see if it finds anything.

this might help: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/586464/windows-10-explorerexe-crashes-spontaneously-please-help/

Sadly, updating the motherboard drivers didn't help, either. At this point I'm forced to conclude that I am going to have to nuke my C drive and do a clean reinstall of Windows 10. (Fortunately, I keep most of my working files backed up on another hard drive, so the main pain is just going to be from having to re-download several games and losing those saves, but honestly, if that's all I lose...)
