I upgraded to 10 from 7 about half a year ago but when i got home today and turned on my computer after logging in my screen would flash between black and an empty desktop+empty dock. after some digging I found out it is Windows Explorer crashing and restarting. When trying to open a folder location or control panel the window opens and looks correct, but will close within a few moments regardless of if I have turned off Windows Explorer. The problem persists with both clean boots and safe boots. some sites say I should try disabling norton, but I'm pretty sure a clean and safe boot both rule out norton as the cause.

There was also one boot where Windows Explorer would hit a bad memory error and froze in a workable state in which i could open things such as finder skype and firefox. This was because I had no data free on my C drive. I used finder to free up 6GB and restarted hoping this would fix it but the problem presented.

edit 1: cmd and internet explorer both work when Windows Explorer is shutdown.

I'm running a custom built pc for which can provide my specs if people think this might be a hardware related problem.
