i just installed windows XP (with sp1, or maybe not even that)
i havnt hooked the computer up to the net yet, but after i installed my Nvidia drivers that came with the mother board, the windows Boot screen freezes and only works on safe mode till i uninstall those drivers. could this be a problem because i havnt downloaded the service packs from the net yet?

Need more info:

What mobo? When we know that, we'll know what year it was manu'ed and whether you need the nVidia drivers or not.

What year does it say on your XP box? That'll tell us what SP you are up to.

As to your question; the answer is no.

Now, a question from me: When you first installed XP, why didn't you take care of connecting?

Try unpdating to sp2 before installing the nvidia drivers. The ones that come with windows should suffice enough to get the computer running. Although it may not have nic drivers.
Some newer drives need .net to run. I believe ati newest drives require that. not sure about nvidias.

ive got a BIOSTAR NF4ST-A9 Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD motherboard, and amd atholon x2 3800 cpu, i dont know what year it was manufactured cuz im at school right now,i believe i got xp in 2003-2004ish
and i didnt connect my pc to the net when i installedwindows cuz i wasnt near a connection and its my first pc i made, so i didnt know i should do that.

thankx for the help

F8 during boot:

Enable Boot Logging: This option turns on logging when the computer is started with any of the Safe Boot options except Last Known Good Configuration. The Boot Logging text is recorded in the Ntbtlog.txt file in the %SystemRoot% folder.

Find the driver that's causing the lock up.. Get into Safe Mode, delete the file that's causing the problem. XP will rebuild that driver during reboot.

Problem should be fixed.

If your computer boots fine with the drivers uninstalled, then boot up, connect to the internet and download the newest drivers (I assume you're probably using the driver CD that came with the card which is probably quite out of date at this point), see if it happens with those then go from there.

XP rebuilts standard drivers upon boot if found to be missing.. I'm not sure if it does it with 3rd party drivers though.

That's what I mean, if it works with the standard winxp drivers (before installing them from CD or whatever). Use those connect to the internet and get the the latest drivers from the net.
