Before I go into the issue, I guess I should post my PC's specs to give perspective:
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
Cooler: Cryorig H7
Mobo: ASRock B450M Pro
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8 GB 26666mhz
GPU: EVGA GTX 1070
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM
HDD: WD Green 240GB Sata III
PSU: Corsair TX 550M (maybe 650M, not certain but I don't imagine this could be the issue)
A while ago I built my first ever rig. Some time later, though not straight away, I started running into issues. On startup, 9 times out of 10, Windows will not start up properly. It boots up, I sign in, and then upon getting to the desktop, nothing works. The start, search and file explorer icons are technically clickable, but bring up nothing, and the other programme icons in the taskbar are simply not there. I can mouse over their intended positions, and that area does light up, symbolising an icon, but I can't click anything. The desktop itself is empty, and no files, icons etc. show up, unless they do, but just as file icons, and still unclickable.
If I click anywhere, the screen goes grayish, the cursor turns into that spinny blue circle, and I get a popup message stating:
"Microsoft Windows
The application is not responding. The program may respond again if you wait.
Do you want to end this process?"
Today, as per usual, it happened, and I decided to end the task, and my screen went black, save for the taskbar, that was still there. About 15 seconds later, my desktop returned to normal, and my google window opened (it was one of the icons I clicked). I decided to open up task manager to see what the performance is like, and it turns out that opening google, and a few more tasks took up a whopping 30-45% of my Ryzen 5 2600's performance.
I don't know what could be causing the issue, but I suspect it might be either the HDD, the SSD or the fact that I'm too lazy to activate Windows 10. I have checked my startup programmes, disabled them all (mostly GOG.com and Gaijin updater) and nothing changed. I'm sick of having to wait 20-40 seconds after startup just to use my PC. Any help would be much appreciated.
