Hello everyone! I'm trying to reinstall Windows onto my machine after I screwed it up using the Driver Verifier. I've used Rufus and free copy of a Windows 10 ISO and key provided to me through my university in order to create a bootable USB drive formatted as FAT32 and GPT, since I'm trying to install Windows through UEFI (just like I had with previous installations).

However, when I run the Windows Installer from the bootable USB, after using the installer's interface to format my C drive for Windows, I run into the following error message:

Windows detected that the EFI system partition was formatted as NTFS. Format the EFI system partition as FAT32, and restart the installation.

After these messages, I've booted into my working Ubuntu installation and have confirmed that the EFI partition is indeed FAT32, and have reformatted it just in case from Ubuntu with no progress. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction!

Some specs are here:
Motherboard
Asus Z87-PRO

Drives

  • sda - 128 GB SSD for Windows 10 OS
sdb - 1 TB HDD for Windows (storage)
sdc - 1 TB SSD for Ubuntu, installed in UEFI mode
sdd - 32 GB Flash Drive for Windows Installer

Solution
I guess having the dual-boot messed up the Windows installation -- I was able to proceed with the rest of the installation upon physically disconnecting my sdb and sdc drives. Hope this is helpful for someone!

Solution
I had an M2 SSD and 2 disks in a raid 1 array on a Gigbyte MOBO GA-Z270X-GAMING 9. Initially my SSD did not show up in the BIOS. A comment on the web said that the SSD would not be visible in the BIOS with the sata mode set to RAID. I broke the RAID link and changed the sata mode to AHCI and rebooted. The SSD now became visible. Next I tried to install windows 10 on the SSD with the same problem as Ostrumvulpes i.e. That the Windows 10 installer thought the EFI system partition was NTFS when in fact it was FAT32 and suggested changing the system partition to FAT32 and reinstalling. So I disconnected the raid disks from the motherboard, started up the Windows 10 Installer and deleted the partitions on the SSD disk just in case! The installer then proceeded to load the Windows 10 OS. Thanks to Ostrumvulpes' information this problem is solved.
