Windows Installation stops cause no previous versions found

I want to fresh install windows on my laptop (Toshiba TE2300). I got a Windows Pro installation cd and everything, the first half of the installation works but then the start up says that there were no previous versions of windows detected on the hard drive and to insert a windows xp home ed, pro ed etc and press enter. The cd is already inside and I press enter but than the message comes up that says that it cannot read the cd or it is not a windows installation cd. The first half of the installation worked fine but now this message appears. I tried cleaning the cd and everything but the same message always appaers. Now my laptop can not run at all cause there is no OS on it. Please Help!

I dunno if it is an upgrade version. On the packet it just says 'Windows XP Professional"

Assuming the disk is good, you might completely wipe the hardrive and try to install the disk. But you will loose everything on the drive & it might still not work.

You say the first half works but... how long did that "first half" take to decide it couldn't go any further. When you set it to install, it would do just that but later prompt you there is an existing installation and do you want to repair it or install over the top of it.

Are you sure this is a genuine Windows XP CD?

The "first half' is the loading of the files from the cd to the hard drive so that they can be installed. After that the licencing agreement comes and I agree. After that the message comes that the installion can not find a previous installation of windows on the hard drive and it needs to know if the system can handle the upgrade and to insert a windows xp home/professional cd etc. The cd is inside and I press enter to continue but than the message comes that the cd can not be read or that it is not a windows installation cd. I dunno what the problem is because I have installed this very cd before with no problems and yes it is a genuine windows XP cd.

Give the CD a polish being very careful and using a fingertip of toothpaste then finish off with some lint cloth. Definitely DON'T use wood-based kitchen or toilet paper. It may be there's one tiny piece of dirt on the wrong part of the disk for the installation.

IS this an anytime upgrade disk ? -- from the sound of it you are reaching the point that the upgrade checks to verify the lower version of the OS is installed in order to use the upgrade key to proceed and your HDD does not have a qualifying prior installation on the HDD for it to upgrade -- and thus it is asking you to put in the original old version of XP to verify that the new upgrade install should proceed since the anytime upgrade is only for upgrading from one version of XP to a higher version and not for use as a clean install (IIRC If you try to do a clean install it will ask for the old qualifying product disk to be installed in the drive so that it can verify that you indeed do qualify to use the upgrade.) So try removing the upgrade disk that is in there and put in the old XP disk from the old version you are upgrading from if this is indeed an upgrade.

Davdchase - if you're going to base your advice on Tim Fisher's articles, why not just link to them instead of copying and pasting them here to look like your own advice?

It's a bit of a give-away that you don't even adapt the article for this being the XP sub-Forum.

After all that, it's probable that JDFan hit the nail on the head - the symptons point better to his suggestion than mine, certainly and probably most of yours!

while installing windows xp If xp could not find sata driver then you will get this error
" No previous version of Windows NT can be found on your computer. Setup cannot verify that you qualify to install this upgrade product. To quit setup, press F3 "
This is windows xp bug which should display as sata error.

In Bios disable sata / ahci etc try different options around sata and ahci and retry.
Another option is download sata driver for your model and while installing windows xp - install additional drivers - add the downloaded driver. it should work fine.
