Windows Installer 5.0 missing registry key

Hi,

I have recently found something wrong with my windows installer; when I opened the Windows Registry Editor, and went to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services
I noticed that the subkey called "MSIServer" is missing from there, that's why I could not found it either on the services. If you are asking me why I checked up that key, it's because of several errors in installations, whith the following error message: "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." But after having thoroughly searching the net for the keys, I found none. In addition, I am quite certain my windows installer files are corrupted, I have the Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64bit with Windows Installer version 5.0.7601.17514 pre-installed on it.
Would somebody be kind enough to tell me where I can get those files and the keys in order to make further installations on my PC again possible?

I am curious, have you tried the KB? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2642495

Also, open the command prompt (run as admin) and type: stf /scannow Does that show any errors that it fixed?

did you try the system repair with the os cd/dvd .

As scout said, the system repair on the disk is a good option. One of the things it runs is the sfc scan i mentioned. Let us know if those found anything to fix.

Thank you very much The_IT_Guy; I didn't found this KB from Microsoft, and I have used their 1st method (adding registry keys into the register).
This worked for me. Also the command sfc /scannow has found a few missing files, but they weren't necessary in order to repair the Windows Installer Service.
