My stepdad recently fell for a scam that led to a rootkit installed on his laptop. I initially swapped out his m.2 drive for a brand new one and installed Ubuntu on it (I figured it'd be a safer OS for him) but it had some audio driver issues that I really didn't want to take the time to research and fix, so I am currently trying to install Windows.

I have tried both Windows 11 and 10, but both installers won't recognize the drive. I tried to wipe the drive through command prompt in the installer, but it doesn't show up there.
As it's an HP laptop, I have tried grabbing the .inf for Intel Rapid Storage Technology from HP's drivers page, but the installer can't find the driver either.

I've checked the BIOS and the drive shows up fine, and the Ubuntu installation I have on it runs perfectly too so it's certainly not a connection issue.

Before I had swapped out the m.2, I also tried to use the Windows 11 installer to wipe the infected drive, but I remember it not being able to find that one either despite it already having an install of Windows on it as well. That was the entire reason I swapped out his drive in the first place, but now I'm seeing the same issue with the new one.

Laptop Model: HP ENVY x360 Convertible Laptop PC 15-ed1000.
CPU: Intel Core i5 1135G7

Download Intel RST driver from hp support site. It's in Driver-Chipset section.

Extract it (do not install). For extracting you may need winrar installed.
Find subfolder F6/VMD
Copy the folder to windows install media.

When installing windows, load the driver during install phase.

Thanks, I didn't realize that I needed the entire folder. I had already tried just the .inf file. Well, at least I was on the right track.
