Hi,

I'm trying to update windows 10 to Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709.and I download it and it seems Like it's installing and I restart the computer and all but when I get back into windows it's not installed the version of windows that I have is still 1607 I have been told by Microsoft that it's because windows Installer the service in windows 10 home I set it to automatic in the services and it starts but after a few Minutes it stops and that is why the windows Creator update is not installing because that is a pretty lengthy update and by the time it finishes the windows installer service turns off. So is there anyway that I can keep the windows Installer service running are there any trick or tweaks that you know about. I meet all the requierments for the creator version of windows 10 Thanks!!!

I haven't seen that excuse before. Its possible the reason is due to the fact windows update has changed since 1607 was released

To save your internet usage, download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB

You could run the update using the USB and see if it has same problem
Once USB created, navigate to the USB in file explorer and run setup.exe
choose to upgrade current PC

Another option is to fresh install win 10 using the USB. If you haven't fresh installed win 10 at all until now, it could add functions you didn't know you were missing. Added bonus to a planned install is you can copy anything you don't want to lose before hand. Fresh install is likely to want to reformat the boot drive so copy everything - if you have 2 drives in PC, just copy it all to 2nd (mostly just data files, applications, etc will need to be reinstalled)

change boot order in BIOS so USB is first, hdd second
boot from installer
follow this guide: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

when you reach the screen asking for licence, click "I don't have a key" and win 10 will continue to install and reactivate once finished

On the screen where you choose where to install win 10, if it gives you an error about GPT drives, delete all the partitions on the hdd and press next. If it still gives error, cancel out of the installer and restart PC and start installer again, it will accept next on that screen this time (some PC just need a restart here)

I may try the media creation tool and the usb. I still want this fixed though because every big download that I need to get from windows update this same issue is going to occur. So I would have to fix this anyways I have a call back from the senior technician at Microsoft who is going to help me tonight.

So thanks for your advice!!
