The windows key to bring up the start screen won't work. This is a brand new computer with a fresh install of 8.1... Is there some place I need to go to activate that feature?

The keyboard is a Logitech 510s..and all drivers are installed. thanks.

Solution
I meant to make sure it was on Profile M1. I had also said to check the toggle switch (with a picture of an old style game controller on it) above the F1-F4 keys, this should be switched to the left.

BTW, I have a similar keyboard, the G110.

Annoyingly, both my Windows keys work on mine in all macro profiles.
Make sure you haven't kicked your keyboard into gaming mode. One of the things it does is disable the Windows key.
Check the controller toggle switch above the F1-F4 keys.
Check your macro key profiles - the Window key is not available when profiles M2 or M3 are active (check the M buttons in the top left corner).

my corsair k90 has one but luckily its not easy to bump it and when you do its illuminated

but still not totally sure what they mean by the start screen,,start menu? or desktop? or metro tiles?

Sounds like you have the exact keyboard. I tried M2 and M3 like you said, and still will not respond.

In windows 8 doesn't this key open up the start menu. Idk what it's called exactly, but the colorful tiles with all the apps and etc on it. WHICH side note, I love it, and don't get why people hate it so much. But even in Win 7 I am pretty sure it didn't bring up the start menu either.

Solution

That was it. FIXED! Thanks. I tried to pick this as the solution, but it said it was a dead link.

I don't understand why they would do that? so you don't accidently hit it while gaming? Or so you can map a key to it?

So you don't get kicked out to the desktop when you accidentally hit it, which has happened to me a few times.

I feel so stupid... I could not figure out why it stopped working for like 3 weeks! I made an account just to say thanks.

This was TOTALLY the solution! 😀 thanks buddy :)

I had to make an account just to say thank you!! This has been driving me mad. I should have realized.

Thanks Again!

go to Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization (type control panel at a cmd window)
Click Taskbar and Navigation
Select Navigation
Tick Show Start on the Display I'm Using When I press the windows logo key

I just learned that my keyboard not only has a button to disable the windows key, but much like the caps and num lock, IT HAS A FREAKIN LIGHT to let me know that its enabled.... someone shoot me. I have a GIGABYTE FORCE K7.
