What is the function of the shortcut combination described in the title? I accidentally pressed them together, the screen blacked out for a flash and I heard a beep (from speakers, not motherboard). But I can't figure out what really happened and also can't find anything on the internet.

Solution

That combination tells windows to reset input cards, and graphic cards. Basically it empties the video buffer and restart the driver, and does the same for the keyboard, the mouse and the soundcard. It was made to mimick that functionality on tablets and tactile devices. Helping some users and techs with stuck graphic elements, black screens, stuck sleep modes, stuck mouse buttons and buzzing or looping sounds.

I have the decency to test something multiple times before posting on a forum for help, so it was not a coincidence. Everything on my side is ok. Beep and black screen only for the mentioned 4 keys.

There's no win+shift+ctrl+b shortcut, perhaps win +b does the same? If so it's just a change of focus

I know for nvidia drivers, if your screen locks into a black/blank screen, hit that combo to reset the graphics. Screen will return after the beep. I've done it plenty of times exiting a game and it doesn't refresh after exit for desktop to appear. I can recreate it as well.. cause it does it today with World of Tanks not exiting properly. I send link a replay if you'd like 🙂

That keyboard shortcut restarts your graphics driver.

Win + Shift + Ctrl + B is a Windows 10 shortcut to restart the graphics driver (so it seems). I've found it useful in my personal experience when a laptop screen or monitor doesn't light up after the PC awakens from a sleep state. Before I knew this keyboard shortcut existed, I had to force a restart.

The post by Kir___ and all subsequent posts about it resetting the driver are a great load of nonsense, it does absolutely none of that and is just a hotkey for black screen diagnostics.

It does not reset graphics stack, the driver, any aspect input devices or otherwise.

it wakes the screen up by triggering a mode change.
