Here's a different problem.. Just reinstalled Windows ME (fdisked the drives and reformatted from scratch) and now, I can get into ME in safe mode, but if I try to go in normal mode, it'll get as far as displaying the desktop icons, but then it will reset itself.. like I pressed the reset button. I'm thinking it has something to do with that initial windows media player demo when it first boots up.. but maybe not?? how can I tell?

Boot into safe mode and find out what programs are running upon bootup. (either in Programs -> Startup or Run -> msconfig)

You can also do a clean boot of Windows ME to isolate the problem. Instructions here:

Found out that my memory was defective.. I searched the Win2k site and found a problem that I was having trying to install Win2k before on this machine... and gave up, fdisked, and reformatted for WinMe.. Replaced the memory and works fine.. dual boot as well.. Thanks everyone for all your help!
