WIndows Media Player Not Playing DVD's

This is the first time I've ever had this problem or even saw anything like it. I put a DVD in my PC and the DVD shows up in the "Device and Drive" of the DVD Drive with its actual title but there's no auto play. When I double click the drive I get an error message saying "Application not found". And when I launch Windows Media Player there's no option to play the disc but the disc shows up in: Organize > Options > Devices in the Windows Media Player. I've never seen this before. My PC clearly recognizes the DVD Drive and the DVD in the drive and I have Windows Media Player installed but somewhere there's some kind of disconnect between the two and I have no idea why. Any suggestions?

Try reinstalling WMP. Can you currently access the program itself? If so, try following the steps under the "troubleshooting" tab from Microsoft support; https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/306318/troubleshooting-dvd-playback-in-windows-media-player-for-windows-xp

Windows Media Player works fine. It launches and it accesses videos uploaded to my PC. And If I poke around the options settings it even recognizes my optical drive AND the DVD that's in it including the title. But for whatever reason the Player doesn't actually play the DVD and there's no option for it to access the optical drive. And when I right click on the optical drive there's no "open with" option either. And just double clicking the drive gets an error message "Application not found". I then realized there's a $15 DVD Player app by Microsoft available in the Windows Store and I began to wonder if it wasn't a random bug but rather set up like this so I'd have to pay for this app. In the end I just downloaded a free DVD Player I've used in the past on older systems and now I'll use that for the occasional DVD.

That's what I ended up downloading and it works fine. I don't really watch DVD's on my PC but it's nice to have the option.
