whenever i try to playback a clip from the internet,
after one second of playing it on media player my windows
XP crashes and"recovers from a serious error".
Windows then informs me that this is due to my ATI graphic
driver. I contacted ATI and downloaded again but it still
crashes???

Do you have the necessary drivers for the graphics card.

Go to device manager and then uninstall the display drivers that is displayed. to do this right click on the monitor in device manager and then click uninstall.
you will be prompted to restart the computer.
now when the computer restarts windows will say that new hardware found and prompt you to enter the path for the cd. if the hardware is compatible then xp will supply its own drivers.
so insert the drivers cd and a window will appear which will show a menu item to install the drivers for xp. click it and follow instructions.

I had a similar problem. Roll the ATI driver back a version.
