Windows missing and/ or corrupted filed

So i went to change out my old hard drive out for an ssd and on booting the pc I get an black screen with text that says "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt <windows root>\system32\hal.dll."

Any help or suggestions would be greatful thanks.

I unplugges the old one and then just plugged in the ssd

The SSD is from another PC with windows on it, right?
You can:
clean the SSD and clone HDD to SSD or
clean the SSD and reinstall windows onto it.

repair install windows. this will fix the hal mismatch in your hardware drivers.

And does this 'new' SSD have anything on it?
Is it a new drive, or did have an OS on it originally?

Either way...a reinstall is needed.
