Hi guys.

So I have an Asus R500A and here's my situation:

-Came with Windows 8.

Updated it to Win8.1 when it came out.

-Bought a new one and so sold said laptop to my mum.

-Before I gave it to her I did a system refresh

-Is now reverted back to Win8.

-Windows is now no longer activated, and so will not do updates.

-Will not complete updates (Always says "Failure updating, reverting back.") {Which I assume could be due to Windows not being activated??}

-Can not activate Windows as the laptop does not have the Windows product key on the bottom of it.

-Stuck in a Paradox, when all I want to do is upgrade to Windows 10, so mum can use her laptop she bought off me.

Any help would be appreciated guys! Sorry if the Greentext style question bothers you, jsut thought it made it less messy.

Cheers,
Jamie

Solution
Do a clean install of Windows 8. Most laptops have the product saved inside the firmware, which makes them activate as soon as you install Windows. I've clean installed several ASUS laptops, all of them activated right away Windows 8.1.
DO NOT INSTALL IT WITH A WINDOWS 8.1 ISO. It won't work with a Windows 8.1 ISO, do it with a Windows 8 ISO

Cheers, I contacted Microsoft like the previous answer said, and they referred me to ASUS, who then told me to do a complete reSET instead of reFRESH. Did that and it worked.
Is kind of a pain, but I can see the logic in it.
Thanks heaps guys :~)
