Windows NT 4.0 for gaming?

Solution
Most "old" games (aka 16 and 32bit) run on XP, when NOT installed to the "Program Files" Folder.
A very few games need Windows 9x on real hardware, preferably running on Windows 98SE.
For DOS-based games, 98% run on DOSBox, and most definitely run better on DOSBox that on real hardware.
So having a machine Dual-booting W98SE and XP will cover all you need. You'll get hardware-suggestion at your other mail.

Forget about it - it supported at best DirectX 5 (and that was a beta for that API), and NO game was ever tested nor validated for it. If you really need compatibility with an oldie (mid-90's game), get Windows 98SE; if you want to run a DOS game, either go FreeDOS or try DOSBox. If your game is more recent than that (2000+), WinXP is the way to go.

It depends what games (and how old) they are. 9x/ME (Namely 98SE) is better for a lot of retro games than XP is.

I'd actually bet that an average joe would be more likely to get a virus on 10 than XP. (Security through [strike]Obscurity[/strike] minority)

Besides, nothing is secure these days, just back up your data every once in a while.
