I'm and using a P4-HT 3GHz /intel 865 chipset, After
initial setup and reboot to finish the setup computer
gives blue screen:

***Stop:0x000000A <0x00000FCC, 0x0000001, 0x00014366>
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL*** Address 80014366 has base at
80010000 - hal.dll

It happens on standard install and using Virtual PC 2004

I haven't found any information if hyperthreading is an
issue, but it does it whether or not the HT is enabled.

Also AGP is supposedly a problem until sp3, but nt4
installs fine on p3 systems with agp cards.

Hi Brady,

There is a similar discussion to this going on in a thread with the title "Re:
Help with Setup - STOP 0x0000003E" in this newsgroup.

We are drawing towards the conclusion that the Intel chipsets after the i850
cannot be used with NT4.0, presumably due to internal hardware changes that are
not allowed for in the NT Kernel code :-( The exact detail of WHAT is wrong,
and whether it can be circumvented are still being investigated by a couple of
people.

I have done installs on system based on i845 chipsets with processors up to
2.4GHz without incident, but I haven't got access to later hardware to
experiment here myself.

Hope this info helps.

Calvin.

Oh PS:

I meant to answer your query about AGP too - in short, and AGP graphics card is
OK to use during install - the system will recognise it as a 'vanilla' VGA card
only.

Any attempt to install card specific drivers before upgrading with a Service
Pack will fail (with various symptoms depending upon the driver code, ranging
from 'nothing happens, doesn't see the new card and drivers' to a STOP (blue
screen) error)

I usually advise people to install NT4.0, immediately after completion apply
SP6a - then sort out your drive partioning and letters etc... , sort out AGP
video card drivers, network card drivers etc..., then begin the long task of
applying Hotfixes and Rollups. (In some cases after all the driver updates are
done, it may be advisable to 'repeat' the SP6a install to make sure nothing has
been accidentally regressed during driver installs.

Have a look at http://nt4ref.zcm.com.au/patch.htm for the info on getting an
NT4.0 installation 'up to date'.
