Can one now transfer a digital license when upgrading major hardware (mobo + cpu + ram) during a clean install? Or would purchasing a retail version and putting it on a USB be easier?

Thanks

Where did the Win 10 come from?

Unless it was a preinstalled OEM from a manufacturer )HP/Dell/etc) you almost certainly can trransfer that license to new hardware.

Read and do this before changing any parts:

For the actual clean install, create your own USB or DVD here:

Hey whoops, I had windows 8.1 and took advantage of the free upgrade but realize this is linked to my current system. Was hoping to transfer the free upgrade. Thanks for the link, will review when home

Yes...your Upgraded Win 10 will work.

Read through those links, and link the digital entitlement to your MS account.
It works, I've done it.

i'm glad the anniversary update essentially creates digital licenses - i linked it to my MS account, i hope it still holds true since it was indeed an OEM preinstalled by the manufacturer
