Windows.old folder question

I notice that when doing a Recovery/Reset this PC/Remove everything operation, Win10 will create a windows.old folder similar to the one it created when doing a win7/8 to win10 upgrade. But the folder created during the upgrade disappears after 30 days. Does anyone know if that happens with the windows.old folder created when doing a Recovery/Reset this PC/Remove everything operation? Does it disappear on its own also? Or is a manual removal required?

From what I know this is a safeguard mechanism in case something goes wrong during the installation process. The system can use the backup copy to roll back any change automatically. I have never heard of it disappearing after 30 days as its up to the user to decide when and if a roll back is
required. Maybe there is a time setting somewhere. Usually this old folder takes about 15 gb or so of data so I always remove it with disk clean up once my instillation is successful
