can not afford to have uncertainty I want this wiped
I did that .that’s what the post is aboutHow To - Windows 11 clean install tutorial
Windows 11 Clean install tutorial This tutorial is intended to help you, step by step, to perform a clean install of Windows 11, version 23H2 or newer but can be equally applied to earlier versions which may have some basic differences in the screens you see but will largely remain similar in...forums.tomshardware.com
If you had, there could NOT be a windows.old.I did that .that’s what the post is about
Please look at the images I provided specifically the third image is that not all partition deleted? If you had, there could NOT be a windows.old.
See Section II, step 6 & 7. That speaks to actually deleting ALL existing partitions, and continuing with a totally blank drive.
I would hold on to .old for a while. But...![]()
Turns out I was ratted -_-. Followed the clean install I think correctly but yet there is still a windows.old folder I had some sort of rat/ info stealer on my old os so I clean installed yet the windows.old folder is there. As seen below there is another device there but that not my internal drive is it? Is that not the usb media drive? Was I supposed to delete it too cause the tutorial said not to. This may be irrelevant I read in the tutorial that it was subject to change but the second image window did not pop up so I didn’t get to click custom just went straight to third window![]()
Your USB should not appear there. Please look at the images I provided specifically the third image is that not all partition deleted?
Windows 11 installation media https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 formatted to fat 32 default allocation size quick format uncheckedYour USB should not appear there.
How did you create the USB installer?
OK, just checking.Windows 11 installation media https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 formatted to fat 32 default allocation size quick format unchecked
Doing it now the usb still showing up thoOK, just checking.
Try the install again.
Are you 100% sure no other drive is connected? Internal or USB?Doing it now the usb still showing up tho
Nothing else is connectedAre you 100% sure no other drive is connected? Internal or USB?
Should look like this if only ONE drive is seen.

Gonna try creating it again using a different file format even tho it makes it into fat 32 I’m desperate at this pointNothing else is connected
no no no ...not different file format.Gonna try creating it again using a different file format even tho it makes it into fat 32 I’m desperate at this point
That’s what I did the first time I even created another installation media after the fake clean install and both of them pop up with windows.old and both pop up have the usb popping up in the installation mediano no no ...not different file format.
Let the MediaCreation tool build what it needs, how it needs.
I don't know what else to say. That’s what I did the first time I even created another installation media after the fake clean install and both of them pop up with windows.old and both pop up have the usb popping up in the installation media
Ik I don’t know what I did wrong I methodical about everythingI don't know what else to say.
The USB you are installing From, does NOT show up as a place to install To.
Further, 'windows.old' cannot survive actual partition deletion. Nor appear after a simple Windows install on a blank drive.
You do not need to format the flash drive.i recorded everything I did the only thing I can think that could have been possible wrong is the way I formatted the usb though I would think the installation media would fix it even if I did you the wrong allocation size or if I wasn’t supposed to put it to fat 32 prematurely
well it’s not working 😭just tried to format it to ntfs then create it again and the usb still pops up. Are the USB’s bad it’s sandisk usb 2.0 cruzer glide 32 gb. Is there any bios setting that could make something like this happen? Any chance it’s a bios or something I know that super unlikely but I really don’t get what’s going wrong it literally hard to mess upYou do not need to format the flash drive.
The mediacreation tool does everything needed.
Again...are you 100% sure there is no other flash drive connected?well it’s not working 😭just tried to format it to ntfs then create it again and the usb still pops up.
