My laptop is slow, and im kinda broke, so I was thinking of a 250gb m.2 wd blue ssd
and i already have a hard drive on my laptop, what i want to do is to make the ssd the boot drive so its alot faster with certain things. Can someone tell me how?

Solution
For the install.

(link below)

Create your Win 10 bootable USB
Physically disconnect the HDD (yes, you need to do this)
Install the new SSD
Power up and go through the install
Install whatever drivers are needed. Remember...this is starting from a bare OS.
Later, reconnect the HDD and delete all partitions on it.

its a 1 tb hard drive, i think ive used up about 600gb?
Well, for a new 250GB SSD, that rules out a migration operation...;(

So we're left with a new install.
This works, but it also means a reinstall of all your applications.
What do you have on this drive?

And accessing your current data (not programs) will be sort of a pain. Doable, but a pain.

Do you have (or can borrow) another drive you use temporarily? Copy your personal data off to that first.

For any operation like this, you need a backup. Just in case things go wrong.

But...with a new install on the SSD, you can't use the applications currently living on the HDD.
Those WILL need to be reinstalled.
Your personal data, if it lives in the default Windows Libraries, will be sort of a pain. Those Library folders are linked to your current user account. The new OS will be a new user. Accessing those files will require TakeOwnership. Sort of a pain.
If we can copy that stuff elsewhere first, makes it much easier.
