I've got 2 X 8GB Ballistix sport DDR4 2400Mhz RAM sticks in my ASUS Z170-A board. The BIOS recognises them both, and they're brand new along with the board. However, when I go to Windows it only uses 8GB. How can I sort this out?

Solution
When fitting a matched pair of memory sticks to a new system build, if the motherboard has four memory slots the first two slots that should be used out of the four and there order they should be placed in order for the full amount of 16Gb of memory to be recognized buy the motherboard will be listed in your motherboard manual.

Place the two memory sticks into the two memory slots the manual dictates and it will be read correctly registering 16Gb of total memory
available.

The box you deleted with the numbered value in it limits the amount of system memory windows can see and utilize.

This is why up to 8gb of memory even thought fitted to the system was only reported as a maximum of 8Gb or 8192. set in MB.

In windows, if you are using windows 10 or any other Microsoft os version such as 8.1, or windows 7.

Click on the start button of windows on desktop mode.
In seach type : MSCONFIG

Select msconfig from the search result and run it.

In the new window box click on the boot tab at the top.
Then click on the advanced tab Vezium.

You will see a box with a numbered value of 8192 typed in it.
Click on the box and delete the numbered value leaving the field blank, then untick the check box for maximum memory.

Apply the new settings, then click ok.
Then reset your system.
Let windows load up to the desktop and a new user session.

And the system will now report the full 16Gb of memory fitted to your system Vezium ok.
