Hello everyone,

I have been trying to find a way to remedy a network category problem that causes my network connection to show up as both an identified private network connection and an unidentified public network connection. I don't know why my network device or computer is showing two categories as active connections via the router. I will attach an image to show you what I mean.

Solution
Two different default gateways. The gateway is the router to access the outside world (10.0.1.1), not needed for local network(192.168.1.1)

Hey T53186,

Thanks for the quick response. I suspected that old default gateway had something to do with it. I'll check my computer settings and router settings to delete that entry and see if the problem goes away.

I will update you shortly.

Yes, that was indeed the problem. Now both entries have turned into a single entry. Apparently, there was a 10.0.1.1 leftover in the manual configuration from before I replaced my router. Even though I had selected configure automatically through DHCP, it appears as though it still registered whatever I had inside the manual regardless of my setting. I deleted the entry and now I only have the one connection and everything is showing up properly now. I feel a little dumb, but relieved. Thank so you much for your help.

Time to hit the Network+ book again!
