Windows Security Essentials vs. Norton Internet Security

I just downloaded updates which included Microsoft Security Essentials. I have Norton Internet Security that I bought and have on my 3 machines. My question is, does the new Microsoft software cover everything and make having 3rd party security non-essential? Do I need both? Should I uninstall one or the other?

You can't have two anti-virus programs on a pc.
They'll conflict.
Use the Norton.

Just had to restore because explorer kept closing after that update. I think it was the Security Essentials. Took it off.

That did not help. Now explorer keeps quiting and restarting. What could cause that all of the sudden?
