Hi I am running windows server 2012 and have 1 problem I shared a drive on the network and from windows 8 client PC s I sometimes get this error 0x80070035 it cant find the shared path but after I click it a few times it will then work and keep working until I restart the client computer again any ideas on what this can be, the other windows 8 computers do not give the same error when sharing with each other it only happens when connecting with ws 2012

Solution
It could be due to the Windows Server 2012 firewall.. give this a try and report what happens. Open the Server Manger and access the properties for Local Server. Click on the Windows Firewall and click on Turn Windows firewall on or off. On this screen turn all all features of the firewall on then click ok. Next go to the Advanced settings and click on Windows Firewall Properties and based on your connection type for example Domain, Private or Public insure that the firewall state is "On" and select Inbound and Outbound connections to "Allow". Save these settings and while I don't believe a restart is needed do so anyway and see if you still have the connection problem.

THANK YOU you solved it, I have been looking all over and all i was reading are useless answers, but your great answer did it, the problem was in the advanced setting the network is on public and Inbound was blocked I changed it to allow and restarted and now it works like a dream. Thank you again

sorry to post again but this happened I turned off the server and started it again and got the same error it looks like when I turn off the server and client the problem came back, 1 thing I found out maybe could be a help is when I connect using \\ servers ip I do not get the error looks like the name is not associating with ip or something like that

I'm assuming the computers you are working with are on the same network but in a workgroup and not part of a domain? This would mean there's no DNS so you're connecting with WINS possibly. So it makes since that the IP address would work since it doesn't need either of those. My networking is a bit rusty so forgive me if I have the term wrong.

Hi thank you once again for your reply yes they are all in the same network client PC s are connected to router and the server is connected to a switch on the other side of the building, the server is set on private network so are the client PCs by the way yes on work group

I tried your suggestion and now I'm stuck. I have a win 2012r2 VM in a different internal network and I'm using RDP to connect to it from a Win7 Pro system. I get a 0x80070035 any time I try to access the C: drive I set up in the RDP connection. Before the VM was upgraded to Win 2012r2 I was using RDP to pass files via cut/paste thru Windows explorer windows across the RDP connection. Once the OS was upgraded to Win2012r2 that stopped working so I tried to share my C: drive across RDP which also fails. I tried your suggestion and went to the firewall settings in server manager. The firewall was off and as soon as I clicked on use recommended settings my RDP window went away and will not reconnect any longer. I don't know how to get back to the VM to unset it.
