did you try to start it off of a floppy or cd?
a general purpose band-aid would be to run the setup program again. boot off the cd rom or floppy, and choose cd-rom support. then off your windows Cd, run setup (most likely d:\setup). Note: this wont delete anything.
This is a general and vague solution to a general and vaguely described problem.

It is a new HDD. And I think it is a sector prob. Can you tell me is the floppy disk that comes with Win98 A boot disk because the one I got doesn't work.

BURP!!!!!!

I haven't tryed the safe mode. I can't remember how to do that.

BURP!!!!!!

I did start it with the cd and reinstalled Win98 and that didn't fix the prob. that is why I'm desperate. This is a new comp that I put together my self.

BURP!!!!!!

Ever see that video of a guy in a cubicle, working on the computer?

He's having problems with it, so he slaps the monitor 'upside-the-head'. Still doesn't work, so he pounds on the keyboard with both fists. Grabs the keyboard and beats the hell out of the monitor, then shoves the monitor out of the cubicle into the walkway. He's rearing back his right foot to kick the monitor when it's helpless on the ground......then the movie ends.

That's EXACTLY what you need to do. Twice. So, you'll have to pick the monitor back up off the ground and put it on the table so you can shove it off again.

How much of the hardware did you put on at once?
Did you install each part one at a time(e.g. G/card..boot, S/card..boot) or did you throw everything on at once and boot?

I suggest removing all H/ware except HDD, G/card, mem, CPU and see how things go.
