I've just changed my asus m5a97 le r2.0 motherboard and amd fx 6300 CPU out for an msi z97 gaming 3 and Intel I5 4590. I was expecting to reinstall windows (I don't have a disc so I would have to buy it again) but decided to see if it could boot up anyway. For a while it wouldn't post and after some trial and error found that the graphics card was somehow causing it. It then managed to boot which I was happy with and then miraculously started loading windows! It had to do some repair thing and restart and then it seemed fine and still is. I was just wandering if I would need to reinstall windows after all or just leave it as it is?

Check the System menu from Control Panel to see if the running copy of Windows is genuine. You may just be running Windows on a short trial period before it bugs you about the OS not being genuine. Glad to see that the system swap wasn't terribly problematic though

I don't see why it would.
