For the past 6-9 months, Windows (7), has been turning off my sound in what appears to be a random cycle. This usually happens when I turn off my speakers at night (when I remember to do so). I have to go into the Sound controller, select the audio device, properties, levels and click to remove the mute.

Not a big deal but just another annoying this that is plaguing my computer.

Try completing a full scan with your virus protection software, also list you virus protection software so I may better assist you. The speakers could be causing the issue to, if you can get a hold of a second set try using them for a few days (make sure to unplug the original speakers).

Kind of weird you can't just unmute from the desktop. Do you have the playback device set as default?

Are you shutting down the computer at night time?

Have you checked to see if the computer mutes after you turn of speakers? (during the day)
