Something wrong with express update via Windows Update (I don't use
automatic updates but did try turning it on and hasn't said anything is
available).

Disable Automatic Updates service (services.msc)
Copy folders Download and DataStore which are in
%windir%\SoftwareDistribution (%windir% is usually c:\windows) to another
folder (e.g. desktop)
Delete the content of Download and DataStore
Enable Automatic Updates and try again.

Let us know if it helped.

It did make it show up with 1.3MB to download, did the download, then at the
end said it was unable to install the updates with all 4 listed. Now going
back in it's back to 0 KB, I assume because it's on the local hard drive
now, but it still fails to install the updates.

I recall something like this a year or so ago on Win9x and having to delete
some folder somewhere for it to start working again.

Alright, I actually signed off then back on as an administrator and it
worked. Previously I was using runas as I had always done in the past.
