I haven't installed an update since December 2013 because of this. I have started windows update and left it on overnight and when I came back in the morning it was still at 0%. I have already disabled metered connection and it did nothing. Also, I can't access the windows 8 store because "your pc in not connected to the internet". Please help. I want to get windows 10 without getting rid of everything on my pc.

One of the updates that frequently "gets stuck" Is actually an Internet Explorer update which requires you to agree to a EULA. Unfortunately that dialog box seems to be a pop-under - a box which shows up underneath other windows that you have open (including the update window itself). If you don't notice the box, you can sit there waiting forever, wondering why the update is not progressing.

what? how do I do that?

I don't want to just uninstall random updates. All of them in there seem to come from about the same time

You need to uninstall the last month or so worth of them infact you can uninstall all of them and start over this is the best advice I can give you other then formatting and starting over which would be more time consuming .. Just a note tho I always watch the installs sometimes you need to do a restart for certain installs before it can continue to go on and finish the rest of the updates so that's the issue why it wont install updates or fails .. don't just choose random choose last month of installs and reboot then try to install updates again.

I think I found the problem. I have had a yellow triangle over my wireless signal for a while now. I can't access the windows 8 store because it says it can't connect to the internet. I think there is a setting that is not letting my internet through to some parts. I can access internet for skype, chrome, steam, and pretty much everything else that is desktop related. Its just the metro parts and the windows update that aren't working with the internet.

Update: Also, this started december 2013. lol

THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME: apparently my bits was broken or something... soooooo I did what this guy did: Had this exact same problem and error code. Turned out that the Windows Event Logger service was disabled. As soon as I enabled and started it, BITS came up right away. ((To find this search for services in the search bar thing)) SO HAPPY. I've been trying to find a fix for this for 2 years!!! ahhh
