Windows Update Download Fix !!

Greetings to All!
I’m working on a friend’s machine, which has Windows 7 Professional© 2009, put into service around 2011. No one had ever created a recovery disk from the operating system. Their online user habits and security practices were very poor, bordering on negligent. When the machine came into my care, it was very nearly at the blue screen of death.
• My first goal was to clean and stabilize the machine to the point where I could retrieve a recovery disk.
• I was eventually able to retrieve a recovery disk. One disk failed the 1st time, but on the second try, I created a three-disk set (all verified and looked good).
• I took a spare used drive, cleaned it and did a slow format. It showed good, healthy simple volume. I put the cleaned and formatted drive into the 2011 machine and loaded a new copy of Windows 7 Pro (64 bit).
• Then I brought down, loaded and installed Malwarebytes. Installed AVG security suite. Performed disk management, incl. defragmentation 3-4 times; and cleaned the drive. Created restore points.
• I installed Firefox with Ghostery. Then I turned my attention to bringing down all the Windows security updates.
• The problem is that the machine will not download any Windows Updates. I got this error code: 8024001B.
• I did a diagnostic check through the onboard diagnostics. The hard drive showed Good, but the check showed a software issue.
• My question: Is there a command line code fix? Or, is there a damaged or missing registry key?
Machine System Info:
Windows 7 Pro © 2009
Service Pack 1
Lenovo Desktop (64 bit) Mod# A707099 Think Centre
Pentium (R) Dual-Core CPU E5800
3.20GHz
RAM: 2.00GB
Motherboard: Mod# L-IG41M2 V:1.0
Does anyone in the community have a fix for this problem without using 3rd party software?
With much advanced appreciation,
ASRock Kid

Hello,

From reading here; it looks like Windows Update is being updated or installed. My first question would be how many times did you try to update and how long did you wait before tries? Did you reboot between tries?

Second thing, try using the Windows Update Troubleshooter which will look at the Windows Update binaries and correct problems as one of it's steps.
