Hello, I have a small laptop with detachable touch screen and with stylus with 32GB eMMC (HP x2 10-inch Detachable Laptop with Stylus Pen, Intel Atom x5-Z8350, 2GB RAM, 32GB eMMC, Windows 10 ) I got on Xmas eve in 2016 for about $150. It is actually a lot of a laptop for such a small price and I use it browse internets, watch movies and also take notes and grade with the stylus. It has very good battery life and charge to 1/2 capacity in just about 30min.

However, I am not able to update it even though I did a clean install and tried to update it. I know there is a windows 10 lean out there (not sure my stylus would work though?) or how do I get it to install updates? Is it possible to add 256gb SDHC and format it so that the laptop uses that drive as extra space for the install? I am sure I am not the only one with this issue as other devices running windows 10 with 32gb eMMC do exist.

Thanks! Hydro

You can update using an external drive:

Just make sure that the external drive is either completely empty or you have a good/tested backup of the contents of that drive (you should be doing this for all systems/drives anyway).

Thanks. I will try that. I do see I have 20.6GB out of 58.3 GB of free disk space. That sounds like enough for an update or is it not? I indeed do not see any error when I want to update. I do not get the "Windows needs more space" error message. When I check the issues with the updates, I see Requires a restart to finish installing and I also see failed to install on dd/mm/yyyy.
The windows version I have is Windows 10 version 20H2.

20GB isn't enough.
When I go to the Microsoft website and use the update option for windows 10, it tells me good new! there is enough room for me to update (or something like that). When I manually try to update on the laptop, I am not given the option to save the update onto the spare usb drive. There might be one thing I could do would be to repartition the disk and delete the recovery partition which would free up 979mb. I have just retrieved my windows product key just in case I reinstall the whole OS from a usb drive with windows home on it.

All I can say is "Good Luck", you're going to need it with that small a drive.
I have reinstalled windows and there are a bunch of hardware for which, the drivers are not found, including the touch screen. Will have to manually install them... Did not image the drive. I should have... oh well, I read it runs fine on linux besides the stylus but the touch screen works.
