Windows Update is not working properly on my Windows 7 Home Premium x64 system, which is running the Mozilla Firefox browser. I've tried numerous fixes of all kinds, including installing the System Update Readiness Tool, as well as checking Services to see if Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Cryptographic Service, Windows Installer, and Windows Modules Installer are set to Automatic and are started, but several of these services are not set to Automatic, nor are they started when my system boots up. I keep having to reset them. A recent Malwarebytes scan detected a handful of Trojan viruses, which were Quarantined, and I then deleted them. I can review formerly installed updates, but the Windows Update itself says that updates have never been installed. I've also run AVG 2014 a few times, and no infections were detected. I ran Checkdisk Utility, which deleted a couple of files, and it also repaired a corrupted Windows Installer file. When I ran System File Checker for the first time, it was of course negative. I welcome suggestions to resolve this problem. Thanks.

Try a System Restore back to when you know everything worked OK

Thats a lot of applications, have you tried going to microsoft's website, i believe you can check the current updates there.

Yes, I have tried System Restore a few times using different restore points, but the Windows Update problem still persists. . . I also tried using Last Known Good Configuration a few times, also.

I have tried to use the Microsoft updater, but the Windows Update still won't work correctly. . . {sigh}.

how long has it been since you were able update your windows?

do you have a paid subscription to an antivirus program?
