Windows Update only works in IDE mode!?

hi,
I installed a new version of Win7 Home Premium 64 on a recently bought hard disk with AHCI mode active in bios but after finishing the installation the Windows Update function suddenly didn't work anymore:

I went into bios and turned it to IDE mode and lo and behold windows update suddenly works again!

Any ideas why Windows Update refuses to work in AHCI mode? Everything seems to work except for windows update..

Update:
It is working now! I opened device manager and updated the JMicron JMB36X Controller + IDE ATA/ATAPI-Controller since there were newer versions available. I had to restart twice though to see WinUpdate working again in AHCI mode..
