Windows Update Problem - Stuck

So I done a fresh install of 8.1 and I can't get any updates, it's always stuck on "Checking for updates". I left it on for 4+ hours with no result on different days.

I ran Windows Update Diagnostic and resolved a few related issues, however it still just searches. I also checked if I have the 2919355 update which has the latest Windows Update Agent.

Alongside, stopping and starting the Windows Update service manually.

Another issue I found was I can't update Windows Defender either.

Also yes, it's a legit copy of Windows and it has been activated.

Why are you still using Windows 8.1? The support for the OS has been really lackluster due to the fact that it will stop having support alltogether really soon. Switch to Windows 10 and everything will be good.

What are your specs? some newer Processors will not receive updates. usually Kaby lake/ryzen based builds though. Likely you have an error of some sort. Try using system restore and then updating to see if that fixes things.

My PC never had issue prior, I only reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows to resolve some HDD issues and ever since then the issue arised. My specs however are i5 4690k, 16 gigs of ram, asrock z97 pro4 and a SSD.

May have had a bad install...try a restore and if that doesn't fix you issue you may need to install windows again.

I ended up resolving the issue by setting everything on automatic, including download and install for any future reference to anyone who may need it.
