Windows update is also stuck at 0%, sometimes says it is updating on reboot, but then all the updates fail.
This started when this laptop (Windows 8) had a virus. It would not load any programs and I could not even connect to internet. It also had 100% CPU load. I did virus scans with various different scanner which all reported a trojan horse and other stuff. They said they fixed the virus but the computer still had same symptoms.
I just decided to clean install a different OS since nobody here likes 8 anyway. I installed Win7 and the laptop still has 100% CPU load and windows update won't work. I figured then this laptop is incompatible with Win 7 because it was a pain just to find drivers for it. The HP website didn't even have Win 7 drivers.
Okay so now I wiped the hard drive again and installed Win8. It is still not installing updates and stuck at 0% download. Randomly, it will say it is installing while I'm rebooting but then they fail. When I check what's causing the CPU 100%, it is a Windows Service called Windows Modular Installer which is a Windows Update program. There is also a program called Service Host Local System that is eating half my RAM and causing my disk to be at 100% at times.
I have tried fixes with Google but nothing is working. Any ideas?
