I can not get my computer updated no matter what I do.

When I go to update & recovery under PC Settings and install it from there, it will sit saying "Preparing to update" (or similar) for about 15 minutes then it will go to Downloading updates and sit there for ~a half an hour with no progress at all.

If I do it under the "Windows Update" it will sit saying "Checking for update" and then it will say it is not responding then it will screw up everything when I try to end the task with the task manager. What I mean by "screw up" is that my desktop basically goes away and then it turns into a blue screen that is completely blank (except my rainmeter things stay up)

I was thinking about doing the manual upgrade to windows 10 if easy enough but I don't want to do that if my PC is not completely up to date on drivers and other files.

ya maybe Microsoft is having issues I see some of that here from time to time I guess it all them windows 10 guys trying to make that work out and got the servers clogged up ?? or that bad weather got something knock out in line ??

give it a day or so or try late tonight to see it it goes ??

so you want to overwrite your good working os for that mess you may find yourself in to with 10 just because of a update issue ??

that upgrade is for the birds in my book if you want to try ten just get a new hard drive and a retail copy and install it normally - I sure would not risk overwriting a ready to go working os - you may need it to fall back on - upgrading may cost you it all ?? [opinion]

that desk top hing may be hardware related or a hard drive issue ??

don't see anything on it as well that's conclusive to your issue .. I guess when all else fails run a smart test on the harddrive to insure its good - reinstall windows --

then I get to wonder if you accepted any of the upgrade to 10 updates and they now got something corrupted in some way [maybe to help force you over to 10 ? lol ]

or try this to see if it works fine or the issue remains under Linux - it it all seems to woke with that then you can look harder at the hard drive or whats on it causing the issue ?? [unhook your hard drive and boot to desktop on the live dvd of Linux]

boot to a live dvd of Linux to see if the issue reoccurs under it ??

You can download the Linux Mint operating system for free. It comes as an ISO file
which you need to burn to a blank DVD. The liveDVD is then bootable and provides a
fully-functional operating system which you can try without affecting your PC. In
layman's terms, when you put Linux Mint on a DVD and place it into your computer, you
can try it out while leaving your current system intact.
