Windows updates not downloading

I have just built a new gaming pc and my computer wont download any windows updates. i have 197 - 209 updates that need to be installed. can someone please help.

This seems to be somewhat common lately. Leave the computer on overnight and it should catch up. I'm not sure why but I've seen more than a few people with the same problem recently. If that doesn't work post back in here and I can show you how to reset the update service.

Try restarting the PC. If that doesn't do it then this page will help you reset the update service.

Ive tried that solution a few times before with no luck. Would I be better off doing a clean install?

Did you just try the automated helper or did you try doing it manually as well?

You do have a legit, activated copy of Windows?

Yes I have a legit copy of windows 7 64. I tried the automated helper. I might have tried the manual option aswell. What does the manual option entail?

Scroll down a bit on the page I linked above and it walks you through a manual reset. It's not hard.

I've only had to reset the update service a few times and only on beta or preview builds of Windows 10.

I have seen this problem on the forums here lately quite a bit for some reason though and usually associated with Windows 7. I'm not sure if it's a backhanded way Microsoft is trying to get people to upgrade to Windows 10 or what. I believe most people are seeing updates start on their own after leaving the computer on and alone for a while.

Try the manual reset if you're comfortable with it. As long as you follow the instructions you will be fine.

Would the killer newtwork driver on my msi motherboard effect windows updates?
I cannot use the Internet unless I have the killer network driver installed.

But the internet works right? Everything but Windows Update? You have the driver installed? If not then there's you're problem.

Having the same issue...

Updates are stuck on 0%. I've tried resetting the windows updater, deleting the windows/software distribution files. No results with that. All that did was get it stuck "checking for updates"...

About ready to install Mint Linux on this thing and forget Windows, not worth all this trouble...

Windows 7 for you as well? Have you let it sit for 24 hours to see if it starts on its own?

Restart it and leave it alone overnight and I guess cross your fingers. :lol:

Well I did a full windows install and with a little bit of patience I got all the updates downloaded. Everything is working great so far. Thank you for your help!

That's great. I thought we could get it without the reinstall but hey, whatever works.
