Windows updates not working on vista

Hello,
I have a dell 64 home premium and the windows updates says it is updated but is incorrect as that was 4 days ago. It says this was yesterday. What can I do please?

Did you try a manual initiation a windows update.

Also your windows might say its up to date, because the last update was four days ago. Windows however checks all the time to make sure that it is up to date. Does that make sense.
