Windows upgrade Help

I am trying to upgrade from XP to Windows Vista from an upgrade disk but the computer wont recognize the 32 or 64 bit disks and i dont know what to do. The boot sequence has the dvd drive first but it doesnt say "Press any key to boot from CD" or whatever. it just has a black screen then it boots up the pc. WHAT DO I DO!!!!

the 32 bits doesnt show up on my other pc but the 64 does. When i put the 64 bit in the pc im trying to install it on under my computer the drive is called "DVD-Ram Drive (D" But when i put the disk in it changes to "CD Drive (D

And if i double click on it it just brings up nothing
