windows vista recovery

I have a gateway desktop LX6810 and can not boot up windows vista. I dont have recovery disc and I cant get into safe mode. I want to get into the recovery on the partition but the Alt F10 is not working for me.

Help ???

According to info on the web, it's Alt + F10 not just F10. You may not be hitting the keys on the right timing.
Also if the system was re-done at some point with a non-OEM Windows setup, the restore partition may have been wiped.

if you know someone with a retail vista dvd you could borrow it and run the start up repair on it ? I also used xp and 7 to do this but I don't recommend it and it did get me to desktop , ??

I hooked up the issue drive to a computer like as a storage drive and let the os on the working computer do the repairs to the issue drive .. it will also allow you to do a check disk

not to say its the correct thing to do but if its down to nothing else to loose .......
