No viruses, malware, spyware, software updates, hardware changes, or OS updates/changes.

It loads the start up and goes to a page with 2 options: launch start up repair and start windows normally. If you choose the first it loads and then goes to a black screen with or without a mouse and then freezes. The second option gets to the same point and then resets the computer.

With the disc in it does the exact same thing as the first option in the previous paragraph no matter which option you choose. Any ideas? I've tried almost everything.

This is indicative of a defective hardware device. Try to re-install your video drivers (get the current version from ati.com or nvidia.com as appropriate) to see if that helps. Also check in your Device Manager (Control Panel) to see if any other devices are acting up. Good luck!

Solution
Well, for now I have an old xbox hd in it, just a 20 gb till I can get the one I want. It's a 600 gb SATA 2.5" (I'll settle with Western Digital if I cant find a better brand for near the same price).

Thank you very much, I've had Samsung suggested to me before and also Toshiba. Western Digital, I have been told, has a significantly higher failure rate than either of though brands.
