I have a laptop whose COA number can be read but the OS type cannot. How can I determine which OEM disk to buy?

Turn on the laptop, see what OS starts (assuming the thing starts and has not been re-installed with something else). You can probably also search for different MS tag images to see what matches what you have, or call MS and ask if they can tell you based on the code. Or look online for the laptop model and check the vendor page. Or by serial number with the vendor. Probably a few other ways I have not though of.

Thanks for your response!!

Tried MS web site, left the question 3 days ago... no response

There is no OS installed. I'm trying to find out which OS can be installed legally. The Toshiba web site shows that this model shipped with more than one OS version.

I think it should be Vista Home Premium 64Bit. I can read the product code X14-39682 on the COA. I need someone with a Vista 64bit DVD to look at the DVD and see if that is the right product number.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond.

That's my intention but first I need to know which OS version it shipped with.
