Windows will not start up properly or shutdown

Hi sorry if this is not the right place for this.

About a month and a half ago I started having an issue where when starting up my computer it would freeze on the windows logo. Holding the power button down would not shut down the computer and i would have to unplug it to turn it off. I later figured out that this only happened on the first attempt of the day to boot up and it would always boot up properly the second time. The only exception to this was when there was a windows update. It would boot properly when installing those. For the most part I decided to just leave my computer on and put it sleep when I am not using it.

A couple days ago I started experiencing another issue. Windows will no longer go into sleep or shutdown. When i click the shutdown or sleep button it will start the process and proceed to the login screen. The screen will go black for a second but then just go back to the login screen never shutting down or sleeping. I am a bit worried about doing an improper shutdown of the computer now as I am worried if it will boot back up at all.

Any ideas as to what is going on here?

Sounds like either virus/malware, or Windows may be corrupted. Try creating a new/different user with admin credentials and see if that new account works properly to eliminate the possibility of your profile causing the problem.
