Hello,
I recently bought an SSD and have successfully installed windows to it, and my PC now loss off of that rather than my SSHD.
All I wanted to do was have the OS run off of my SSD because it's faster. My files are all still on the SSHD but the file paths are wrong. Also when I'm searching for things in my windows search bar that are located on my PC, like Steam or Google Chrome, they aren't found.

I literally just want my PC to be exactly the way it was before, except have it run off of an SSD rather than a slow ass hard drive.

What would be the best way to go about doing this? Cloning isn't an option as my SSD is 120GB and my SSHD is 1TB.

Thanks!

Solution
for most web brosers now you can back up the user profile then reload them on the ssd. google if you log into google will now save your settings so if your pc dies you can recover your profile on a new pc.
You will have to reinstall any programs that you had before, they wont run off the HDD (nor would you want them to).
The SSD will only speed up applications that are installed on it, even if you could link the paths they would still be just as slow as they were before.

Its possible to run the game off the HDD, but the application itself (steam) should be on the windows drive, the SSD.
Basically once you reinstall steam you can go into the settings and point it to where the games are located, then it will run them off the HDD while the program is on the SSD.

Okay, thanks for the quick responses! Things like Word, my GPU drivers, Origin, Chrome, etc - what can I do about them?
I just want to play games off of my SSHD and have windows on my SSD for faster loading speeds when my PC starts up and the like. If I have to go reinstalling everything, it seems like I'll be spending more time doing that than I would save with faster loading times

Youre really going to want to install any program you use onto the SSD, trust me its worth it. It may seem like alot of work right now, but it will only take an hour or two at most, but the results are worth it.

Sure windows loads faster, but whats the point if none of your applications do too? Windows could boot in 5 seconds but then you have to wait 10 seconds for steam to open up, check for updates, then finally launch from the HDD. Its a waste to not use your SSD for them. The time saved from window starting is nothing compared to how responsive the system will be with the applications installed too.

If you clean-installed Windows on the SSD, then it will NOT be aware of anything on the SSHD.

Back up any files/data from the SSHD, and wipe the SSHD.

Go to your settings for storage and make sure that any and all things (Maps, Apps, Documents, etc) are all selected to default to the D drive.

Start installing your applications again, making sure they all install on the D drive. Exceptions would be drivers, and frequently used programs.

That should take care of things.

Also, make sure you take care of disk cleanup on that SSD - NEVER defragment it, but make sure Temp directories get cleared out regularly, etc.
