Windows won't detect second hard drive

Windows is not picking up my second Hard drive. I even checked device manager it won't come up there either. I heard a strange buzzing sound coming from my computer the same time I noticed my second HDD wasn't being detected.

I opened up my case to check it out. I unplugged my second HDD and placed it back in again (it was a bit hot). I booted up my PC and the buzzing sound is gone, but my second hard drive still isn't being detected at all.

Now my question is, if all the cables are plugged into their correct places, what's wrong? Could my hard drive be dead? Why would it be hot if so?

Hey SamzPC. I understand that the buzzing sound is gone, but is there any indication that the drive is working at all (like humming sound, vibration)? I'd recommend that you try the drive with another PC - either externally via a SATA to USB cable or internally (or at least with a different SATA connection) to see if the same thing happens. If you get it to work, then you should backup any important data which you might have on it ASAP. After that, I'd recommend that you download the manufacturer's diagnostic tool and test the drive with it.
Other than that, you could try accessing the drive via Linux Live USB/CD (in case the issue is not connected to physical damage).

Hope that helps.
