Hey I'm trying to install Windows 10. I had formatted my hdd using DBAN from a USB using Rufus. I tried installing windows 10 and it wouldn't work. I went online and the fix was to open command prompt then diskpart then list disk and then clean my disk. I did that but after having waited for hours it was stuck on 34% so I gave up on cleaning. I instead tried installing windows anyway and it actually started working. But it got stuck at 31% so I restarted it now when I boot up my bios detects the hdd but after I try to install Windows, the hdd is not detected at all (from the installation disk, or list disk in cmd or the bios). But when I restart my pc and load into the bios my hdd is detected in the bios. Any ideas?

Hi
Bootoff hirens boot cd or usb version
There are a collection of hard disk diagnostics programs on it

Seagate diagnostics will test most brands as will western digital data lifeguard for windows

Dban does not format a hard disk it erases every thing on the hard disk
Including partitions

So there would be no need to clean or remove partitions after dban has run

Check the sata cables are plugged in properly both ends before starting the diagnostics.

Personally i would test the RAM before testing the hard disk using
memtest86 or the diagnostics on windows dvd or usb

It could be a failing hard drive. How long have you had it? I had the same issue a few years back, when trying to do everything to install windows. It was slow, and just would not finish. I swapped it for a 80GB to test it out, and it flew by with a breeze.
