I have just bought a new computer and I'm trying to install windows XP on it (until I can get windows 7 or 8) though every time I go to install it says "setup is loading windows" then blue screens giving a "stop: 0x0000007B" error.
Specs are:
Gigabyte 970A-D3P motherboard
AMD FX 6-core cpu
8gb G.Skill RipjawsX memory
1 TB WD green HDD
ASUS HD7770 directCU
Also I installing it using an external disc drive.
Please help!

Verify that the hard drive is configured properly in BIOS. The STOP 0x0000007B error could occur if the hard drive settings in BIOS are incorrect.

STOP 0x0000007B errors are caused by device driver issues (especially those related to hard drive and other storage controllers), viruses, data corruption, and sometimes even hardware failures.

but if it says INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE maybe i can help you

Doesn't say anything about INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. The full error is "*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xc00000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)" Really hoping it's not hardware failures considering I only just built it.

I would recommend a detour into the BIOS for your motherboard during POST and verifying that your on-board SATA controller(s) are in IDE mode, not AHCI mode. I don't believe the Windows XP installation can proceed with AHCI enabled, without having device drivers for your SATA controllers handy, and you haven't mentioned having those on hand.
